Welcome to Bow

Bow is steeped in history being orginally part of the medieval parish of Stepney until independence in 1719. Today modern Bow is now two wards within Tower Hamlets, incorporating Old Ford and the eastern end of Bethnal Green.

Sylvia Pankhurst the daughter of the Suffragette movement leader Emmeline set up her own breakaway movement in 1903 at 198 Bow Road. During the first world war she began a nursery. clinic and cost price canteen for the poor at the bakery.

Today, Bow is going through a revival with old buildings being renovated and turned into living accomodation including the former match factory now known as the Bow Quarter. Victoria Park, the so-called "lungs of the East End", is located near here.

As for it's recent claim to fame in 2000 and 2001 the Big Brother UK house was located at Three Mills Studios in nearby Newham also reported as Bow as the studios are included in E3.

Local traders have been working in this area since their ancestors worked and settled in the area. Many have carried on traditional businesses keeping alive fish and fruit markets fullfiling the needs of local residents used to quality produce and goods.
